Miksani will be donating a 100% silk ‘Sundress’ from our Spring / Summer 2010 collection to "Donate Design to HEAL Africa" (www.healafrica.org).
Our US agents Bel Esprit will be working with HEAL Africa, a medical relief organization that provides surgical and medical care to the victims of rape due to military conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. HEAL Africa has set up a network of "safe houses" for women to provide them with support, both physical and emotional, as they return to their communities after treatment.
The program provides education, training (particularly in seamstress skills), as well as micro-loans and grants to these women to help them create sustainable businesses.
Bel Esprit will be raising funds, along with assistance from the fashion industry through donations of expertise and production patterns to help the women learn industry-standard production. Keep an eye out for the ‘Shop for Charity’ section of the Bel Esprit website (www.belesprit.net) coming soon…

We will be showing our Spring / Summer 2010 collection at the Fair Trade and Upcycled Fashion Show at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea on Friday 5th March 2010.

From September 2009 all our 100% organic cotton garments will be carbon neutral in association with Piqqo (www.piqqo.com).
You can find out what projects your garment is helping to fund and see how you are making a difference to the environment by tracking your garment’s unique serial number on the Piqqo website. You can also use the ‘Piqqo Diary’ application to track and monitor your carbon footprint and compare it with friends.
The offsets have all come from a reforestation project in Mexico that helps local land owners to manage their forest in a sustainable way. With the carbon emissions calculated from all stages of a garment’s lifecycle by Piqqo, when you purchase an organic cotton Miksani product you can be sure it is 100% carbon neutral. We’ve have chosen to offset the garment emissions through the Scolel Té project in Mexico.

We had a fantastic debut at Pure where we showed our SS10 collection. Garments from our organic fair trade collection were featured in Pure magazine and on the main Catwalk. We were also lucky enough to be chosen to be part of the Pure ethical walk.
Thanks to Richard and Emma from Piqqo (www.piqqo.com) for all your help at the show!

The Conscious Designers Collective (CDC) enjoyed a highly successful evening of fashion and beauty in the luxurious Aveda Institute, Covent Garden last night. Guests were greeted with exclusive treatments, canaps and organic wine supplied by Stellar Winery, followed by an exciting catwalk showcasing the Autumn/Winter 2009/10 collections of nine designers at the very forefront of ethical fashion.
The relaxed and contemporary surroundings of the Aveda Institute were the perfect place for guests to unwind whilst sampling the fashion delights CDC had to offer.
CDC members Miksani, House of Tammam, Nancy Dee, Bibico and Elena Garcia were joined by fellow ethical designers Ruth Cross, Mark Liu, Davina Hawthorne and Rossette, all of whom showed their AW09 collections at the event. Models wore shoes by Hetty Rose and Beyond Skin.
Thanks to everyone who made this an amazing evening!

London Fashion Week started with a bang today when the Conscious Designers Collective put on an unforgettable renegade catwalk outside the Natural History Museum. 20 stunning models showcased the best of British ethical fashion in an innovative street runway show. This unorthodox but exciting show brought the work of nine designers and the message of ethical fashion to the masses. From high end couture eco-fashion to poverty busting underwear, there was something for everyone. Our models arrived at 11.30am in a fleet of environmentally friendly Green Tomato Cars to hoards of excited photographers and fashionistas eager to see the latest in fashion and ethics.
The roving ethical catwalk drew some of the largest crowds and biggest interest of the day. Models strutted their stuff in the revolutionary and forward thinking designs of Miksani, House of Tammam, Nancy Dee, Elena Garcia Eco-Couture, Davina Hawthorne, Pants to Poverty, 21 Things I Love, Sophia and Bourgeois Bohme shoes. For the second time in 10 days The Conscious Designers Collective, who hosted an incredible pre fashion week show in association with Aveda last week, has proved eco is truly the future of fashion and eco designers are not willing to take a back seat anymore.
We were delighted to be one of the winners of the Shell Live Wire Grand Ideas Award this month. Miksani received funding to research and develop new sustainable fibre and fabric combinations in India and Nepal. Were already planning a production trip for later in the year so watch this space.
Our second time at the Margin tradeshow in central London. The new location worked really well and we met some great new contacts.
AW09/10 photoshoot at the Keylight studios in Vauxhall, London. Thanks to Greg, Ella, Luke, Annie and Andriani for your invaluable help.
The second tradeshow of the season! After dragging our massive suitcases all the way from London we arrive with fellow ethical fashion designer Lucy Tammam. We were part of the So Ethic section of the show and not only made some great buying contacts from France, Belgium, Austria and the UK but also ethical designer Nieves from Bibico (www.bibico.co.uk) who went on to join the CDC.
The first ever Miksani photoshoot, after a bit of a panic about whether the Welsh weather would let us down Greg got some amazing shots despite the wind and impending rain. Shots were taken on Three Cliffs Beach on the Gower, South Wales.
Miksanis debut tradeshow in the UK! Our brand (previously known as Miksa) featured organic cotton jersey dresses, alpaca wool cardigans and cute prints in the Spring / Summer 2009 collection. The highlight was definitely meeting fellow ethical design duo Nancy Dee (www.nancydee.co.uk). Thanks to Annie for all your help!
